What is Acid Jazz?

Acid jazz, also known as groove jazz, is a musical genre that combines looped beats and elements of funk, hip-hop and jazz.  It also contains elements from soul and house music and even disco.  Beginning in England in the 1980s and 1990s, acid jazz is sometimes thought to be a revival of jazz or jazz fusion.

Sometimes acid jazz includes electronic composition and integrates sampling and live DJ cutting and scratching as hip-hop does, but it is just as likely to be played live by bands that consider jazz interpretation as part of the show.
