The pocket computers were transferred from the exotic and expensive toys to the accessories that are available to many and absolutely necessary. First of all it happened because of the lowered prices (the simplest models cost $80 and the hi-end models cost $600-800) and advanced possibilities.

What can the pocket computer used for?

Firstly PPC is a real computer where it is possible to use such programs as text redactor, electronic graphs, mail and MP3 player.

Secondly, Pocket PC is a mobile device of small dimensions which can indeed (with some exceptions) fit into the pocket. With its help it is possible to read books and materials, type small texts and notes, connect to Internet, play games, watch video films and so on.

When choosing the Pocket PC phone first of all the user needs to know the characteristics desirable in the phone. There are a lot of different models now which can have a considerable price difference at the same time having the same speed and memory. It is necessary to pay attention only to the features that will be used in future. It does not make sense to buy a PPC "for the future" as the technologies develop very quickly and become cheaper. The model considered hi-end today can be stopped half a year from now and the new devices will open up to the user the unseen possibilities.

The appearance is one of the main factors when making the choice of the Pocket PC. When other features are the same, the appearance can have extreme importance. The Pocket PCs have different geometric dimensions – some can be hardly fit into the pocket but they possess the keypad. Others can be heavy in the pocket – weight has always one an important characteristic of the mobile devices. Light Sony SL-10 weight about 100 grams, medium Tungsen T3-150 grams, and for example heavy Sharp Zaurus weights more than 220 grams. Sometimes it is good to pay attention to the material of the Pocket PC phone body: it can be plastic or metal.

The display of the up-to-date PPC can be black and white or color. The former are the past already, and the latter become as cheap as the former. It is important to note that not all the displays can be easily used outside with the bright sunshine. The PPC displays can be of different geometrical dimensions and resolutions. For example, Toshiba E740 has a 3,5 inches display (with the resolution 320x240), E800 -4 inches display(640x480), Sony sj-20 – less than 3 inches display(320x320), and Tungsen T3 has a unique possibility to change the display size (and resolution – from 320x320 to 320x480). The more the resolution is, the better the image is. But even with the resolution 320x240 the image will be clearer than at the modern LCD monitors.

The Pocket PC which seemed a luxury some time before now becomes an irreplaceable helper.
