Ben - Not sure if that is the case now - if you use AGPS it has a 5-10 lock on I believe???

Well...they have been talking about the WiMax version forever...even back when there was only the n800, if they really bring that out and the data plan is not too outrageously expensive, I may get one.

As long as they promise to release an SDK in the next year to give me loads of things it doesn't have now; then I can complain about them not doing it soon enough. Anyway there's no fucking toaster or washing machine built in... cheapskates! ;)

"Back when there was only the n800"? My Nokia 770, happily charging on my desk for another day of mobile Linux goodness, scoffs. And these cost only $100-$120. I suggest picking up a Nokia 770, seeing if you like having a device with this form factor, and decide if you'd use the extra speed and features of an 800 series tablet before shelling out $400.

Macegr, I bought a 770 at a similar price to yours, but as they've become rare, they've gotten more expensive. The N800 is probably the best bargain now, though the N810 is nicer. I think both the N800 and N810 are more stable than our 770's, theirs browsers can handle youtube, and they can do Skype not just Gizmo. Not that I don't love my 770; I do.

i am intrested in this but im so sure it is so well supoorted. how many choices of gps programs can it have? i have enough trouble finding a decent one for windows.

Not only is there poor satellite lock time, but also, the built-in map software sucks, and you have to pay extra for navigation (the program isn't worth it at all). There is a freeware alternative that is much better (Maemo Mapper) but you need to either pre download the map cache and directions, or be tethered to a phone the entire time so it can download directions.

Don't know about the N810, but I just use Google Maps with my N95. It doesn't do turn by turn, but it is more than sufficient to find what/where you are looking for.

If you want it, then get it. Although with Apples recent announcements and the plethora of quality applications arriving within a few months, it would be a waste of money to buy into this product. It's akin to purchasing a Zune and hearing about games coming soon for the device, only to be superseded by the higher quality games ( console level ) to be added to the iPhone and Touch in the coming months.

One thing, there's absolutely no reason to bring in another iPhone-is-still-better comment. 2nd, the news about games for Zune was barely a few weeks ago. Along with the promise of it going on in the spring (of this year).
Compare that to waiting for an 'official' SDK coming from Apple for more than half a year, with no absolute certainty of this "console" level game to be introduce in a few months. Seems that your words are a bit off there.

I owned one for about 3 weeks and returned it.
It was just too slow for me.. the thing chugs at just about every task.
It's much slower at GPS than my Garmin 360, and the browsing is much slower than my iPod touch.. come to think of it, why the hell did I buy this thing?
ROFL.. anyways.. I wish that along with a drop in price they'd release a more expensive version with a beefier processor and a bit more RAM.
I personally think these mini-handheld devices are still a bit ahead of their time. They just don't perform well enough or have batteries that last long enough right now. Just my not so humble picky opinion.

I bought the N800 6 months ago when Circuit City had a sale. $200 minus 10% coupon. Definately worth $180 but neither is worth $390.

Okay. Since no one has said it yet, I'll point this out:
Eee PC FTW
It does Java, Flash, has a real touch-type capable keyboard, same resolution, does Skype with video, bigger screen etc..., etc...
The perfect portable internet device + laptop
I run XP on mine. I've yet to find any application it has not managed to run well for me. 100% satisfied 5 month owner.

I have been considering an 800 or 810, and I have also been considering the Slacker portable. Will the 800 or 810 play music on Slacker.com over wifi? If so, I would skip the Slacker portable and just get the Nokia.
